Original ingredient from prickly pear cactus fruit

Nowadays, prickly pear cactus is very well integrated throughout the Mediterranean area ; all the more that it plays a key role in the safeguard of the environment, allowing to stop the growth of the desert and to re-build biodiversity.

For many years now, BIO SERAE has established strong partnerships with Opuntia ficus indica producers, and conducted extensive research works aiming at improving its know-how on prickly pear cactus leaves. The fruit of this cactus then drew its attention, and BIO SERAE wished to fully draw the benefits from its specific knowledge and from the exceptional nutritional properties of prickly pears.

These original fruits are characterized by specific phytochemicals such as betalains, and especially indicaxanthin which is a unique pigment, seldom represented among edible vegetables.

Studies showed that the bioavailability of indicaxanthin is 20 times that of betanin.

Cactus pear fruit is a natural source of betalain pigments : purple-red betanin and yellow indicaxanthin.
Thanks to a thorough selection of fruit and a specific process, Cacti-Nea™ offers an exceptional richness in indicaxanthin (65 to 85% of total betalains), a highly bioavailable pigment.

Prickly pear fruit not only preserves body cells from oxidative damage : its supplementation also increases plasma concentration of antioxidant vitamins such as vitamin E and vitamin C.

Clinical test shows that cactus pear fruit is a source of bioavailable betalains and suggests that indicaxanthin may particularly be involved in the protection of LDL against oxidation.
